Senior Homestead Exemption  (35 ILCS 200/15-170)

To Qualify:

Property must be owner-occupied by senior citizen during the year or unoccupied but owned by a senior citizen who has moved into a nursing home during the year.

Must be 65 years or older during the assessment year.

Property must be a residential single family home, town home, or condominium.


 

 

Documents Needed:

-

Recorded Property Deed or Title Insurance Policy.

Proof of Age: Driver's License or State I.D. or Passport or Birth Certificate or Baptismal Certificate showing DOB.

Exemption application signed by senior citizen. The application is available at our office, the DuPage County Supervisor of Assessments office or their website – www.dupageco.org/SOA.


 

 

Process:

 

Please bring the required documents into our office. We will photocopy all documents and notarize your signature.


 

 

Effect:

 

The Senior Homestead Exemption provides an annual exemption of $8,000 from the assessed value of the property. The exemption amount will be pro-rated if the senior moves into the home during the year.
