Senior Homestead Exemption (35 ILCS 200/15-170)
To Qualify: |

Property must be owner-occupied by senior citizen during the year or unoccupied but owned by a senior citizen who has moved into a nursing home during the year. |

Must be 65 years or older during the assessment year. |

Property must be a residential single family home, town home, or condominium. |
|

Documents Needed: |

Recorded Property Deed or Title Insurance Policy. |

Proof of Age: Driver's License or State I.D. or Passport or Birth Certificate or Baptismal Certificate showing DOB. |

Exemption application signed by senior citizen. The application is available at our office, the DuPage County Supervisor of Assessments office or their website – www.dupageco.org/SOA. |

Process: |
Please bring the required documents into our office. We will photocopy all documents and notarize your signature. |

Effect: |
The Senior Homestead Exemption provides an annual exemption of $8,000 from the assessed value of the property. The exemption amount will be pro-rated if the senior moves into the home during the year. |
